Organisations appeal relaxation on general strike

Imphal, June 02 2009: Various organisations in separate press releases appealed the students union, Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and the state government for relaxation of the 120 hours general strike in the state called by DESAM considering the welfare of the general public of the state.

Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup, Kangleipak (MEELAL) expressed deep condolence over the brutal killing of Professor Md Islamuddin inside the campus of Manipur University amid the day on May 25 last.

MEELAL termed the killing as a cowardice act and also stated that uncertainty of a Professor's life indicates complete lawlessness of the land.

It has been since long time that the people of the state are being killed at any time by the security forces or the militant outfits according to their wish.

MEELAL appealed all section of the society to ponder the situation of the state in future if such killings are not stopped.

MEELAL appealed the state police to release the arrested innocent students soon and stop chasing after some more students in relation to the killing of the Professor.

A press release issued by the Secretary Publicity of MEELAL, KC Khuman appealed DESAM to relax the 120 hour general strike which is to be called by them considering the heard earn life of the common people of the state.

The Kripa Society appealed DESAM to relax their 120 hours state wide general strike which they scheduled to start from June 03 against the non release of arrested innocent students and some leaders of students' unions by the state government in relation to the murder of Professor Md Islamuddin on May 25 last.

The society also appealed DESAM to have some relaxation at least for the members of who are working on drugs, HIV/AIDS, persons living with HIV/AIDS in their way to acquire medicines and related works including transportations to Hospitals in a press release issued by the President of the Society, H Dineshwar Singh.

Demanding an amicable solution between DESAM and the state government regarding the arrest of innocent students in connection with the murder of Professor Md Islamuddin, Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO) and USER Manipur in appealed to the state government and the executives of DESAM to relax the 120 hours general strike called by them against the arrest considering the worse situation of the society and indispensable HIV/AIDS health related services including needle syringe exchange programme, Oral Substitution Therapy, ART, clinical investigations and health emergencies coming from distant places in separate press release issued by its General Secretary of SASO, Y Sashikumar and Secretary Research and Information Wing of USER Manipur, Ningthoujam Roshan Mangang.

Loumee Shinmee Apunba Lup, Manipur (LOUSAL) also demanded immediate release of the innocent students who were arrested by the state government in connection with the murder of Professor Md Islamuddin on May 25 last without any condition and also appealed DESAM to relax the 120 hours general strike called by them considering the welfare of the state farmers.
