JAC on Sanayai killing set deadline on May even as Kiranjit's dead body accepted

Imphal, May 02 2009: A JAC formed in connection with the killing of one Khudrakpam Sanayaima alias Sanayai by a combined force on April 24 at Ningombam today set deadline on May 10 to book the culprit security personnel involved in the killing with a threaten to launch agitation from the next day with the support of local meira paibis.

On the other hand the dead body of Kiranjit killed by another combined force at Laikot village in Imphal east on April 24 last lying unclaimed at RIMS morgue has been taken by the family for performing the last rites.

Today, on the day of Mangani Leihul Tamba of Sanayaima killed by the combined force of Imphal west police commandos and troops of 12 Maratha Light Infantry at Laikot village on April 24 last, villagers of Phumlou Siphai Leikai staged a sit-in protest with the slogans, "We denounce killing innocent people, punish the killers, etc.

Womenfolk and members of the JAC speaking to the media persons said that Sanayai was a man earning livelihood with cultivation.

He left home on the day of killing him after one of his friends named Yeisnam Gyanchand of Sagolband Meino Leirak who called him over phone on night of April 23 .

After leaving home in the morning of the day, he failed to return home, the protestors said stating that family members went to ask him to the house of Gyanchand but he told that after going a work together at Keishampat, they separated near the fly-over for the day.

Later, on April 25, family came to know that he was killed by security force.

In connection with the killing of the Sanayai, the JAC had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister demanding appropriate action against security personnel involved in the killing of Sanayai.

The same demand is yet to translate into action, JAC members lamented.

They also reiterated that if state government failed to translate the demand into work on or before May 10, they will launch intensify forms of agitations.

In the meantime, the dead body of Elangbam Kiranjit of Thoubal Haokha killed by a combined team of Thoubal Police Commandos and 23 AR at Laikot village under Lamlai police station on April 24 has been accepted by the family today.

The dead body has been received for performing the last rites considering the inconvenience facing by the family and not taken after agreement was reached with the government authority, clarified the JAC.

The JAC will not retreat from the demand put forward by them and continue to press the government to fulfill it, they said.

Mention may be made that the JAC has been demanding suspension of the police commando personnel involved in the killing of Kiranjit, resignation of chief minister from home minister portfolio alleging that he could not protect the life of civilians.

They also said that they will go to court for justice in the killing of Kiranjit.
