Imphal, December 23 2008: AN IRB man has been apprehended with a hand grenade by a team of police commandos led by OC, Wangoi police tonight at around 930 pm from Hiyangthang along the Mayai Lambi road, an official source said.

The nabbed IRB man named Yumnam Dineshwor (33) son of Y Kala of Kondompokpi Maning Leikai currently detailing as escort personnel of the Sighat MLA was nabbed when he attempted to escape by speeding up his scooter (MNE-5682) on seeing the police commandos coming, the report said.

A police team led by Lamabam Lenin, MPS on probation and looking after the charge of OC, Wangoi with another team of Imphal west police commandos led by SI, Budhachandra and Khogen chased after when he sped up his scooter and nabbed him.

During spot verification, the IRB man reportedly disclosed that the hand grenade in his possession is issued by the authority but later, he again said that he collected it after it was dropped from a CRPF convoy.

He has been detained for further interrogation, the source said.
