Nando further remanded in police custody

Imphal, June 28 2009: The alleged kingpin behind the murder of the special contractor Y Krishnada, Th Nando was produced in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal and remanded further in the police custody for five more day till July 1 .

Police taken further remand to the alleged kingpin with the prayer in the court for further interrogation into his involvement in the abduction and subsequent murder of the contractor even after family paid a ransom amount of Rs 25 lakh against Rs 2 crore demanded by the kidnappers.

As per the ruling of the CJM, Imphal BK Sharma which remanded for five more day, medical check up to the health condition of Nando should be conducted for every 48 hour if necessary and also directed the police not to conduct third degree method during the interrogation.

The investigating office (IO) was also directed allow Nando to meet with his counsel during his stay in their custody.

Police produced Nando in the court today with the expiry of remand period which was taken after he was re-arrested from the state Central Jail, Shajiwa where he has been lodging as under trial prisoner.

Police prayed for 10 days remand but court rejected it and given only five day remand.

The IO said in the court that under section 43 of the amended Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, police can take remands an alleged accused person for 30 days, prayed the court to give 10 day more remand in the police custody.

Another person named Md Sujebur Rehman son of Md Kiyamuddin of Lilong Turel Ahanbi who has been arrested by the Imphal police in connection with the same murder case was also produced in the same court and remanded 10 days in the police custody till July 6 .

Mention may be may be made that even though Ashalata who was arrested in connection with the murder case has been sent to jail, two more persons arrested on the same case are in the police custody.
