Three orphans of deceased Chanbi taken back to Children home again

Imphal, February 05 2010: Authority of the Child Welfare Committee today took back the three orphaned children of Chanbi from the IGAR(S) and lodged them at the Children Home at Damdei in Kanglatombi today.

The three children, who become orphans after their widowed mother was gang raped and murdered by miscreants along with their eldest sister, were taken by the authority of the Assam Rifles for adoption on February 3 last.

The Child Welfare Committee of the state government took them back after issuing an interim order.

Before taking back the children, a meeting of the Child Welfare Committee at the office chamber of the Director of State Social Welfare Department today.

The meeting discussed the matter related with the taking over of the children by the AR authority which was also attended by officials of the AR.

After the meeting, officials and representatives of NGOs working for the welfare of children taking part in the meeting went to the house of the grand father of three children at Phayeng and took the opinion of the closest relatives of the children and that of children.

Officials said that as preferred by the children and their relatives, the three children were kept at the state run children home on temporary basis under the care of the Child Welfare Committee.

Another round of meeting will be held on next Thursday to decide the fate of the children.

A final decision will be taken in the meeting.

But the decision will depend on the choice of the children, the official added.

Authorities of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles-South-IGAR(S) had taken the three children, Sonika (15), Tingku (13) and Rita (5) for adoption with the consent of their grandpa A Amuthoi on Wednesday afternoon.

A column of 29 Assam Rifles led by captain Sandeev had taken the three children with the assurance that IGAR (S) will bring them up till they attained maturity.

They also assured proper education and others facilities to make them perfect citizens of the nation.

Mention may be made that the widow Angom Chanbi and her teenage daughter, Meneka abducted by miscreants on the night of January 12 were found as dead at a paddy on January 23, 10 days after they went missing, at an open paddy field at Tampha Loukon of Phayeng Chingkhounou under Lamshang Police Station in Imphal West district.

The three children are currently studying in Don Bosco High School, Phayeng.

The school authorities had also promised to provide free education to the three orphaned children.
