Imphal, February 03 2010: A mass rally to register a strong protest crime against women in the state will be carried out on the streets of Imphal tomorrow.

The proposed mass protest rally on the streets of Imphal is to be organised by the All Manipur Nupi Marup.

It will kick off from Keishampat Junction at 10 am, according to the organizers.

Speaking to reporters here at Ema Keithel today, General Secretary of Organising All Manipur Nupi Marup, S Sorojini expressed concern over the recent murder of women after alleged rapes.

She observed that crime against women like rape and murder are increasing in the state as indicated by the recent series of murder of women allegedly after rape.

Just while people condemned the recent incident of murder of a widow along with her teenage daughter at Phayeng, another crime of killing of a girl by her lover occurred at Ningombam. Despite various laws to protect the women are in force in the state, life of the women are still at risk as they are at the receiving end of various of forms of torture, molestation, rape and murder.

This has compounded the woe of the women who are also victims of armed conflict, she said drawing the attention of the law enforcing agencies.

She also appealed the people to participate in the proposed rally.
