Women vendors, residents protest Mayang Imphal blast

Imphal, March 31 2009: Decrying the blast at Mayang Imphal Bazar last night that injured to eight, women vendors today staged a sit-in protest at the market shed where the blast took place.

Mention may be made that the bomb hurled inside a shop in the Mayang Imphal Bazar blasted at the market shed at around 7.40 pm when a 12-year old girls Prity, daughter of the shop owner pick up and threw away knowing that it was a bomb.

The incident took place at pick hour timing of the local market.

Around 300 people took part in the sit-in protest which was organized by the women vendors of the market with extended support from womenfolk of the surrounding areas and local residents.

It commenced from around 11 am and went on till 3.30 pm.

A meeting was also held at the protest in which talkers strongly condemned the act of exploding bomb at he crowded market area and appealed all concerns not to indulge in such activities which amount to suffer people.

On the other hand, police had conducted verifications to the two youths who sustained injuries by the splinters of the blast.

However, they were release after the verifications, reports said today.
