Siroy stand off: State may take tough stand
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, January 29 2009: With the NSCN (IM) refusing to budge from their stand over the camp at Siroy village, the State Government has decided to intimate its firm stand to the Union Home Ministry following a meeting of the Unified Command, which was chaired by the Chief Minister today.

The decision to make its stand known was taken during a meeting of the Unified Command which was attended by the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Home), DGP, GOC of 57 Mountain Division, IG AR (S) and top officials of the CRPF, BSF and Intelligence agencies today.

However on the other hand a source said that though the Siroy situation was discussed minutely no final decision was taken. Though no final decision was taken on the Siroy stand off today, it is reliably learnt that the State Government has started the process of finalising a missive to be sent to the Union Home Ministry.

Other than the Siroy situation, the Unified Command meeting also discussed the overall law and order situation in the State.

The Centre is also likely to take up some proactive measures, said the source.

On the other hand when The Sangai Express inquired whether the IM cadres holed up at the Siroy camp have been sneaking out with arms, a reliable source refuted the report and added that there is no question of any cadre leaving the camp.

There is no change, said the source.

The Cabinet had also discussed the issue yesterday.
