Imphal, January 29: MLA K Ranjit Singh and Congress candidate in the ensuing 9th Assembly election from Sugnu AC has refuted the allegations that his party workers had fired several rounds of fire and disturbed the flag hoisting ceremony of RJD candidate Iboyaima on January 25 as baseless and unfounded.

Addressing a press conference in connection with the incident today, Ranjit said the allegations levelled against him by RJD Manipur Unit president W Nipamacha that his (Ranjits) workers not only destroyed the food kept but also fired several rounds of fire during the flag hoisting ceremony of Iboyaima at the latters Wangoo Tera Lupa Marup residence on January 25 was complete hogwash.

On that very day, my own flag hoisting ceremony was held at my Serou residence and was participated by people of 11 communities living in Sugnu AC, he said, adding that around 1000 people from Wangoo area had also come in 14 vehicles to participate in the function.

However, when the vehicles reached Wangoo Tera Lupa Marup, workers of Iboyaima not only stopped them and pelted stones breaking the wind shields but also beat up the occupants.

Necessary action would be taken up against the RJD candidate if anything happen to the two injured persons, he warned.

It is really unfortunate, that the State Unit RJD president and former Chief Minister Nipamacha fielded a person who does not understand the code of conduct of the election, he said.

Ranjit further charged that the workers of MPP candidate M Chaoba had also tried to stop the people from coming to his flag hoisting ceremony on January 25. People of Kakching Khunou area had come in 15 vehicles to take part in my flag hoisting ceremony that day, but they were accosted at Umathel, he asserted, adding that some anti-social elements have been threatening the people of Kakching Khunou so that they do not vote in favour of Cong candidate in the upcoming election.
