Imphal, May 27 2009: Protesting the arrest of students including student leaders of AMSU by police following the assassination of Proctor of Manipur University Prof Md Islamuddin on May 25, a large number of students took out a rally in different parts of Bishnupur district today.

On the other hand, setting 24 hours as the deadline for unconditional release of all the arrested students, AMSU president Jamesbond Mangang has warned that it would intense agitation with effect from tomorrow if the demand is not met.

Pressing their demand, many students took out a protest rally in Bishnupur district today.

Participated by hundreds of students from various schools and colleges, the protest rally began from the ground of Moirang Multi-purpose Higher Secondary School and proceeded upto Lamlangdong Keithel.

Rallyists also carried placards inscribed with slogans decrying the conduct of the police towards the student community and demanding unconditional release of the arrested students.

Later during the day, addressing a press conference at AMSU headquarters here, president of the student body Jamesbond Mangang said the gunning down Prof Islamuddin inside the campus of Manipur University deserves strong condemnation but the subsequent arrest of innocent students instead of finding out the real killers is despicable.

Therefore all the arrested students including student leaders of AMSU should be released without any condition within 24 hours.

Otherwise, AMSU would be constrained to launch a series of intense agitation.

Starting from tomorrow, all the students in different parts of the State will start wearing black badges and stage sit-in-protest.

If the Government fails to release the students even after this then all the Govt institutions would be shut down.
