Fuel, goods stock running low

Imphal, September 24: With the United Committee Manipur (UCM) sponsored National Highway 39 blockade still in force food stock and oil reserve of the State is drying up at an alarming rate.

According to the General Manager of Indian Oil Depot, Imphal Division KI Singh the present stock of petroleum at Chingmeirong depot is 505 kilolitre, kerosene 1199 kilolitre and diesel 2039 kilolitre till this morning.

Position of aviation fuel stands at 442 kilolitres.

The petroleum stocks is likely to last for 12 days, kerosene 13 days while diesel may last for 20 more days, the GM disclosed.

He expressed concern that if the blockade continues the State is likely to face another bout of acute fuel shortage.

If may be mentioned that transportation of oil by transporters had stopped since September 16 on the NH-39.However, according to police source, 25 vehicles, including tankers and gas services detained at 2nd Manipur Rifles campus have left Imphal to lift fuel this morning under security escort.

In the meantime, All Manipur Tanker Drivers' Union alleged that drivers were forced into taking the wheels and Government will have to shoulder responsible if any untoward incidents take place.

There is no change in the decision of the Tanker's association to abstain from NH-39, said a source.

Essential commodities are also running low, said a Chambers of Commerce source.
