UCM sit in protest programme concludes, held at various places

Imphal, October 20: The United Committee Manipur (UCM) sponsored five day mass sit in protest against the state government's failure to clarify the applicability of the ongoing ceasefire between the government of India and NSCN(IM) concluded today.

The state had been witnessing unrest among the people following the arrest and release of a 13 member NSCN(IM) team by the state authority since the second week of October.

The government of Manipur on the hand is not ready to spell out anything relating to the demand of the committee during the course of the five day mass protest.

Continuing the sit in protest agitation against the government, wearing the traditional attires women folks of Sekmai area in Imphal west district near the national highway 39 also staged mass sit-in protest on Monday despite the restriction imposed by the district administration.

Police later disbursed the protest.

The UCM today said mass sit in protests were held at Motbung at Senapati, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Wangjing bazar, Thoubal.

It said it is unfortunate that the state government stopped the sit in protests using the state forces.

The government of India has not yet clarified on the reported statement of Padmanabaiah.

Is not his statement the statement of the PMO and the Home ministry it questioned and expressed unhappiness over the failure to clarify on the matter.

In view of the development, UCM as announced on Sunday is planning to take another form of agitation from Tuesday onwards, sources received here said on Monday.

All Manipur United Clubs' Organization (AMUCO) in the meantime called upon the all walks of life residing in Manipur to voice for the protection of the territorial integrity of Manipur.
