Although police have claimed to have recovered one AK 76 rifle with magazine and 15 live rounds from the slain individual, family members and local people contended that Inao was a casual worker doing whatever job that was available.

A public meeting, held in connection with the killing at Pourabi Mayai Leikai, has constituted a joint action committee christened JAC Against the Killing of S Inao Meitei.

After the meeting, local people including Meira Paibis came to Imphal to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister.

However, they were blocked by police at Sanjenthong.

Moreover, police resorted to firing tear gas shells in their attempt to drive back the people.

In the process, nine Meira Paibis sustained injuries, out of whom four are said to have sustained serious injuries.

The four who sustained severe injuries are identified as Keithellakpam Renu (30) w/o Ibombi, Nongthombam Manitombi (50) w/o Lukhoi, Nongthombam Mema (55) w/o Chaoba and Yumnam Ibemhal (40) w/o late Inao.

All of the four belong to Pourabi Mayai Leikai.

They are undergoing treatment at JN Hospital.

Later, some members of the JAC together with local MLA Th Lokeshore submitted the memorandum to the CM.

Contending that Inao was an innocent civilian, the memorandum demanded befitting punishment to the security personnel involved in the killing.

It further cautioned intense forms of agitation will be launched in case those involved in the killing are not booked within three days.

Although the JAC members met the CM , the two sides could not strike any agreement.
