Imphal, December 18 2008: Residence of Kha-Sanjenbam Pukhrambam Gram Panchayat Pradhan Laishram Basanta (41) located at Sanjenbam Makha Leikai was attacked by unidentified persons with gun shots last night.

Denouncing the attack, people of villages under the Gram Panchayat staged a protest sitting today.

Just as Basanta went to sleep at about 9.20 pm, unidentified person/s fired around 10 rounds at his house.

Bullet marks and holes made by piercing bullets were observed on walls and GI sheets of the roof.

Eight empty cases of AK ammunition, two projectiles and one misfired bullet were recovered.

The exact reason and identity of those involved in the attack could not be ascertained till the time of filing this report.

There has been no monetary demand from any UG group nor any case of intimidation to his family, said Basanta.

In connection with the gun attack, a complaint has been lodged at Wangoi police station.
