The bandh is being called to protest the Shakok incident in Ukhrul district on August 12, in which two NSCN (IM) cadres were confirmed killed.

The Assam Rifles personnel have been accused of torturing and killing the two NSCN-IM functionaries.

The Assam Rifles has, however, denied the allegation whatsoever.

It is worth noting that rallies were taken out yesterday by thousands of students along with people of around 32 villages in Ukhrul district, against the incident, in which two cadres of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), were killed by Assam Rifles (AR) troops near Shakok village in Ukhrul district on August 12 .

In the rally, placards with messages such as "We Want Peace, Not War, "Assam Rifles - Don't Break the Ceasefire,' etc were held by the protestors.

Meetings were also held after the rallies in which people strongly condemned the killing of the two NSCN (IM) cadres.

Against the unprovoked killing, and demanded the AR troops to end the harassment of the villagers and the removal of the AR troops from Ukhrul district .It may also be mentioned that various transporters and drivers associations have re-imposed the Chakka bandh from 5 a.m.of August 18 demanding the state government to provide security along the National Highways 39 and 53 and to repair the two highways.

Besides, the 48 hour bandh called in all the Naga inhabited areas of Ukhrul, Senapati, Chandel and Tamenglong districts of Manipur by various Naga civil society organizations in protest against alleged violation of ceasefire between the NSCN-IM and government of India by Indian security forces is still on till midnight of August 18 .
