Krishnadas murder case : Prime suspect Nando remanded

Imphal, June 18 2009: Undertrial prisoner Th Nando a self proclaimed leader of a faction of the proscribed outfit, KCP has been remanded to police custody for 10 days as a prime suspect in the killing of Special Contractor Y Krishnadas.

Thokchom Nando (30) son of Subol of Khangabok Part III Lamlong has been languishing in Sajiwa Jail in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Lungnila Elizabeth.

He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal today who remanded him to police custody till June 27 .

The persecutor pleaded for 10 days' remand for questioning Nando in connection with the murder case of Y Krishnadas.

After hearing the plea the Court granted the remand.

On being asked by media persons outside the Court room if he would like to say anything, Nando said, "I believe the facts and circumstances of the murder case would be established.

I'm not involved in the case.

I have been in jail since a long time back".

Yengkhom Krishnadas of Kakching Sumak Leikai was abducted by unidentified gun men from his in-law's residence at Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai on June 10 .

He was found murdered at Lilong Chingjao in the morning of June 12 .

On the intervening day (June 11), Rs 25 lakhs were given to the abductors at a private residence at Tera Sapam Leirak to secure the release of Krishnadas.

Based on the disclosure of Seram Ashalata of Tera Sayang Road who was arrested by police for her reported involvement in taking the ransom amount, police conducted a raid in Sajiwa Jail on June 15 .

During the raid, cell phones and SIM cards were seized from Nando.

With due permission from the Session Judge Manipur East, Nando was re-arrested yesterday.

Significantly, Nando was languishing in Sajiwa Jail as a prime suspect in the kidnapping and murder of Lungnila Elizabeth, daughter of former Education Minister Francis Ngajokpa when Krishnadas was killed.

Lungnila Elizabeth, then only 12 years old, was kidnapped from near Little Flower School on November 3, 2004 .

Her decomposed body was discovered on November 12 at Tera Sadokpam Leikai despite a ransom of Rs 10 lakhs being earlier given to secure the safe release of the girl.

On the other hand, demanding commensurate punishment to all those involved in the murder of Krishnadas, a protest demonstration was staged at Kakching Naohal Lai Lampak today.

The protest demonstration was participated by around 1500 people belonging to Ward Nos 1, 2, 3 and 12 of Kakching Municipal Council and Sora, informed a press release issued by the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Yengkhom Krishnadas.
