Imphal, July 17 2009: The ongoing 120 hours general strike has been shortened to 72 hours in the interest of the upcoming CBSE and BSEM exams as well as the general public.

DESAM in a statement, informed that its ongoing general strike would end at midnight of July 18 .

Asserting that the Govt should not hold DESAM guilty for the murder of Prof Islamuddin, the student body demanded a white paper on the killing of the Professor.

Detention of student activists under NSA was not related to the killing of Prof Islamuddin.

The Govt was using the murder case as a pretext to arrest the students for some other concealed reasons, the student body alleged.

It asked for the genuine reports obtained from the IRB personnel who surrendered to police for his involvement in the murder case.

Clarifying that DESAM was not related to the murder of Prof Islamuddin in any manner, it asked the CM and the State police not to project DESAM in the wrong light.

The student body further cautioned all diesel auto and Tata magic taxi operators doing service along different routes for reportedly defying the general strike.
