Imphal, February 17: Union Defence Minister George Fernandes today strongly refuted AICC president Sonia Gandhi�s charge against his party of having nexus with underground organizations.

�Sonia is a liar�, he emphatically said.

AICC president Sonia Gandhi while speaking during a public meeting at Mapal Kangjeibung in Imphal on February 9 charged both BJP and Samata Party of having nexus with insurgents in the State.

Addressing mediapersons at Manipur Press Club building this morning, Fernandes declared that his party is confident of forming a Samata led Government after the ensuing polls.

Predicting that the verdict of the people will lead to a hung Assembly, Fernandes said the next Government will be coalition regime.

He said the composition of the coalition will be clear only after the results are out.

Asked about the possibility of aligning with the BJP, he said the possibility depend on the election results.

Delving into the problem of insurgency in the whole northeast, particularly in Manipur, he said the activities of the undergrounds will not bring peace but rather worsen the situation in the region.

�The most important thing in Manipur is the restoration of peace�, he remarked while assuring to provide good governance to tackle al the problems of the people.

The first phase polling on February 14 was by and large peaceful, Fernandes said while expressing his party�s confidence of winning substantial support from the electorates.

Fernandes arrived here on Friday to campaign for the second phase polling slated on February 21 next.
