Imphal, November 13 2008: Claiming responsibility for the attack at the Assam Rifles post, attached to Lilong police station, on November 12 at abut 9 pm, the proscribed UNLF said that a special team of MPA launched the attack using rockets and M-79 grenades.

The attack totally took the Assam Rifles personnel by surprise, said the outfit in a statement today and added that it also inflicted heavy damages in which many were injured.

Care was however taken not to target the State force and this was achieved remarkably well.

After the attack, the MPA cadres withdrew from the site.

Earlier too, MPA cadres had attacked the security force posts at Longa Koireng and Ithai Barrage using rocket launchers and grenade launchers.

Alleging that the Assam Rifles is the most deceitful among the security forces, the outfit said that apart from rampant killings and arresting civilians by dubbing them as cadres of underground organisations, the Assam Rifles has also been using anti-social elements and issuing arms to them to terrorise the people and malign the revolutionary movement.

Citing an example, UNLF said that in the November 13 issue of the dailies, a news item issued by the PRO of Assam Rifles stated that one Thoibi of Moreh ward number 7, a UNLF cadre, was arrested by 20 Assam Rifles personnel at Bongyang check post on November 11 while coming in a Maruti car.

Asserting that Thoibi is not in any way related to the outfit, UNLF said that on November 4, a statement from the IG AR (S) had stated one Thoibi, a PLA cadre, of Moreh Ward number 7 was arrested during a search operation.

Stating that the lie of the Assam Rifles has been exposed, the outfit said that the AR has been trying to fool the public.
