Imphal, October 12: The DPP has strongly condemned the decision of the State Government to impose indefinite curfew in the twin districts of Imphal to foil the democratic protest against the release of 13 NSCN (IM) cadres including its Home Minister.

Speaking to newsmen today evening, the party's spokesman RK Anand reminded that the 13 NSCN (IM) cadres were arrested from within the territory of Manipur and were released without any conditions.

He questioned what stopped the Government from taking up action against the outfit.

The action of the Government has raised serious doubts over whether the cease fire is enforced in Manipur or not, said RK Anand adding that the release of the cadres violated the laws of the land.

The Chief Minister is not above the law and hence he cannot act in violation of the standing laws of the land, said the spokesman.

The Chief Minister cannot justify his action by merely stating that the release was effected as a goodwill gesture and no one will buy the story that the release will serve as the last warning to the NSCN (IM) not to foray into the territory of Manipur, observed RK Anand.
