Three die in inter-UG clash

Imphal, December 05 2009: Atleast three cadres of an armed group got killed following a shoot-out between two UG groups in a Tamenglong district area even as report has been received of the banned PLA striking at an Assam Rifles camp near Kasom Khullen sub-division in Ukhrul district.

According to a police report, armed cadres suspected to belong to the KNF (MC) and United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) organisations clashed at Lenglong junction in Longpi area under Nungba police station of Tamenglong district at around 12.30 pm of December 3 during which three KNF (MC) cadres were slain.

Lenglong junction is said to be about 30 kilometres south of Nungba police station.

The deceased persons have been identified as Paotinlam alias Lakshman (27) s/o Nehthang of Nobin village in Churachandpur, Shathang (27) s/o Seimang of Haiyang village also in Churachandpur district and Khupmang alias Doni (22) s/o Khuphao of Assam's Dingjang village, close to Tamenglong border.

It is also informed that due to remote location of the clash site the police initially were unaware of the shoot-out but the matter came to light when a group of villagers reported the incident to Nungba police station yesterday.

Subsequently a police team retrieved the bodies attired in camouflaged uniforms and brought them to RIMS morgue today from where family members as well as representatives of Kuki civil society organisations identified and claimed the corpses.

On the otherhand, the PLA attack of the Assam Rifles post located at Khoripok along the Kasom Khullen road took place at around 7.30 pm of December 4 .

The AR post belonging to the 34th battalion is informed to be about 12 kilometres east of Kasom Khullen police station.

However, there is no report of casualty or injury on either side.
