Two UGs killed, another nabbed

Imphal, February 04 2009: A combined force of Thoubal District Police Commandos and personnel of 21 Assam Rifles killed a suspected activist of the proscribed PREPAK during an encounter which took place at Kakching Khunou under Waikhong Police Station of Thoubal district this afternoon.

According to a statement issued by SP of Thoubal district Clay Khongsai, the combined force was pressed in action for launching a search operation in Kakching Khunou area based on specific information about the presence of PREPAK cadres.

While the search operation was underway, the combined force observed some youths moving around suspicious at Kakching Khunou Maning at around 3.20 am.

On seeing the security personnel, the suspected UGs opened fire at the combined force.

The combined force also retaliated the firing leading to exchange of firing which lasted for around 7 minutes.

In the retaliatory firing of the combined force, one of the UG suspects was killed though the rest managed to escape towards the nearby hillock.

One 9 mm pistol and a magazine loaded with one live round of ammunition have been recovered from the possession of the slain UG suspect, the SP informed.

On the other hand, Imphal East Police Commandos have reportedly arrested one cadre of the proscribed KCP (MC) from Kongba Bazar area at around 11.50 am today.

According to a statement issued by SP of Imphal East Th Radheshyam Singh in this connection, the arrested KCP (MC) cadre has been identified as Laikhuram Nabakishor Singh (52) s/o late L Kulachandra Singh of Kongba Laikham Leikai.

The SP informed that on verification, Nabakishor disclosed that he joined KCP (MC) in November 2008 through one Dioy and was involved in extortion of money from Govt officials in Imphal East.

Another suspected militant was killed by a joint team of 16 Assam Rifles and Imphal West commandos today at Kangchup Chingkhong today at about 7 pm.
