HRA files affidavit to probe panel

Imphal, April 03: Human Rights Alert (HRA) has submitted a written affidavit pertaining to the allegations of mass rape of Hmar women at Lungthulien village in Churachandpur district by cadres of non-tribal armed groups before the Justice Rajkhowa panel which is investigating the case today.

The panel set up by the State Government to establish the facts and circumstances leading to the Churachandpur allegations and the alleged sexual assault of Maibam Naobi Chanu by Thoubal Police Commandos had on March 21 issued public notices inviting affidavits on the two incidents within 14 days.

Though the affidavit with regard to the Churachandpur incident was furnished before the twin commissions on the last day today, no such paper pertaining to Naobi's case has been submitted, official sources in the panel informed The Sangai Express.

Meanwhile, Justice Rajkhowa, who was out of the State arrived at Imphal today and resumed his office, the sources added.

Babloo Loitongbam, executive director of HRA submitted the affidavit pointing out the findings of the recent study conducted by a team of human rights bodies at the affected villages under Tipaimukh sub-division and Mizoram.

The fact finding team christened as 'Fact Finding Team on Internally Displaced People from Tipaimukh Sub-Division' included representatives of HRA, Hmar Students' Union, Rongmei Lu Phuam, Human Rights Law Network and Naga People's Movement for Human Rights.
