Imphal, October 01: Troops of 29 Assam Rifles have gunned down two suspected underground cadres in Tengnoupal area last night even as security forces deployed in the State rounded up a number of activists of different armed organisations.

According to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S) today, 29 AR personnel launched an operation and laid multiple ambushes on being informed about movement of UG cadres in between Chelep and Palbung villages which are about 11 kilometres north of Tengnoupal police station.

Observing some persons moving in a suspicious manner 'on the track' the troops challenged them but instead of heeding to the call, the UG suspects lobbed a hand-grenade besides opening fire, the PRO maintained while adding that two persons were killed in retaliatory action by the AR troops.

Conveying that identity of the slain individuals are being ascertained, the PRO statement listed one 7.62 mm pistol with two magazines, three live rounds, 27 assorted rounds and one diary containing phone numbers of PREPAK cadres as items recovered from the slain duo, whose bodies have been deposited at RIMS morgue today after handover to police.

Troops of 32 AR arrested one PULF cadre identified as Abdul Jabbar alias Idrish (29) s/o Akbar Ali of Lilong Haoreibi Yangbi Leikai from Lilong Bazar area yesterday.

Abdul Jabbar, from whom a receipt book of the PULF organisation was recovered, has been handed over to Irilbung police station later in the day, the PRO added.

On the other hand, a release issued by SP (IE) Th Radheshyam informed of the district commandos and troops of 32 AR arresting a PULF cadre namely Md Samir Khan alias Inao (21) s/o (L) Md Islamhi Khan of Keirang Umang Leikai from Abustic Junior High School ground at about 4.30 pm today.

One 9 mm pistol marked as Petro & Broda made in Italy along with nine live rounds in the magazine have been recovered from Samir, who is informed to be an active member of PULF (MI Khan) as well as holding the rank of deputy finance in-chief of PULF.

Another SP (IE) statement informed of one woman cadre of the KCP (MC) namely Thingbaijam Rita alias Takoi alias Rozy (25) d/o Th Yaima of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai being arrested from Khabeisoi at around 4.15 pm yesterday.

One lady's handbag containing Rs 10,000 has been recovered from Rita, who reportedly revealed of joining KCP (MC) in August, 2008 through one Bhogen and that she was involved in extortion of money from the general public, business persons, Government officials etc.

Troops of Assam Rifles also apprehended three UG cadres and two overground workers (OWG) of PULF (azad) from different places on September 29 and 30 .

Troops of 29 AR overpowered one PREPAK cadre namely S/S Cpl Soibam Manaobi alias Nanao (21) when the individual tried to escape from a Maruti Van (MN01K/4432) which was stopped at mobile check post in Chamol Road junction at about 6 pm of September 29.The vehicle was coming from Moreh side, added a PRO release issued today.

Nanao, who reportedly disclosed of being an active cadre of the PREPAK organisation, joined the outfit on July 1, 2005 and was in camp in Hleizek (Myanmar).

Two persons including a PLA cadre identified as manoranjan Sharma (20) of Moreh W/N 5 was also arrested by troops of 31 AR from the said locality two days back, another release of the PRO said while conveying of Manoranjan's disclosure of having trained from march 26 for 45 days at Myanmar.

The individual was entrusted to arrange for stay of four senior PLA cadres at Moreh and subsequently at Imphal where they were supposed to attend a meeting, the PRO maintained.

Launch of search operation by troops of 34 Assam Rifles at Thoubal bazar area yesterday led to the arrest of two PULF (Azad) OGWs namely Md Abdul Rajak alias Komal (23) s/o Abdul helim of yairipok Tulihal Tabopi and Md Hafizuddin alias Sanayai (20) s/o Md Islamuddin of Yairipok Tulihal Moiram Leikai, added the PRO statement.

Two mobile phones (Nokia 6030 with charger and 2600), one Honda Activa scooter (MN04B/3010), driving licence, Rs 290 in cash, one Excel prepaid card and one RC book have been recovered from the arrested duo, it maintained.
