Villagers protest against 'gun culture'

Imphal, January 30 2009: DECRYING THE shooting to injure of Kakyenlakpam Chinglen after he was abducted from a Thabal Chongpham and Leishangthem Jiten, during the course of searching of Chinglen by the unknowns on January 27, villagers of Sairemkhun today staged a sit-in demonstration.

The sit in protest was commenced from 12 noon today at the waiting shed at Sairemkhun Maning Leikai and participated by the womenfolk of Polangsoi, Tairenpokpi, Atong Khuman and Maklang.

During the sit-in protest, various slogans against trial with gun, demand for clarification on the shooting to injure of Chinglen and Jiten by the responsible group or individuals were displayed.

They also appealed all concerns to stop everyday killing spree in the state.

Mention may be made that Kakyenbam Chinglen (21) son of Bobo of Sairem Khun abducted by some unknown person on Tuesday from his home was left with bullets injuries at the chest and hand Wednesday night.

Before this Leishangthem Jiten who went out in search of Chinglen with his elder brother was shot at to injure by the abductors in the morning of the same day.

They are still hospitalizing at Shija Hospital.
