Indefinite bandh imposed on Mayai Lambi over killing teacher

Imphal, December 23 2008: INDEFINITE BANDH has been imposed from tomorrow (December 14) along the Mayai Lambi road denouncing the assassination of a government teacher by miscreants yesterday evening at Samurou Noarem by the locals of Samurou and its surrounding who formed a JAC against the killing of Moirangthem Ibocha (47) .

Miscreants shot dead Ibocha yesterday evening at around 5.30 pm while he was proceeding on the Mayai Lambi to pick up his wife from Samurou Naorem.

While imposing the indefinite bandh which would commence from 5 am tomorrow, the JAC is demanding opening of police outpost at Chandranadi and Oinam Lamkhai where looting of vehicles by miscreants frequently occurred and pressing the government to find out the culprits behind the murder and book them under the law of the land.

The decision to call the bandh was taken in a public meeting held today after a day long sit-in protest was staged at Samurou Bazar in which locals from the Samurou and its surrounding participated.

In the meeting talkers lamented that the Mayai Lambi road, most importantly at the portion at Chandranadi and Oinam Lamkhai areas are no more safe for night traffic as miscreants frequently indulge in snatching of vehicles from the passerby.

More difficulty facing by the people is that when some one asked to stop in the darkness of the night and thinking that they are looter speed vehicle, sometimes they become police personnel on duty and punish for not stopping ask to do so, they said while suggesting the need of opening police outpost in these danger portions.

The meeting also resolved to hold another public meeting at Samurou and discus future course of action if their demands are not fulfill by the state government.
