Contractor killing protest to continue

Imphal, June 20 2009: Despite the arrest of Th.Nando, the alleged mastermind in the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Manipuri contractor, Y.Krishnadas, and remanded to police custody, it appears the joint action committee (JAC) against the murder of the contractor will not be satisfied until the real culprit who killed the contractor is arrested and booked under law.

The JAC here on Saturday met the governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat and submitted a memorandum drawing kind attention of the governor into the matter and demanding the real culprit be arrested at the earliest possible and booked under law.

The JAC asserted immediate step be taken to arrest the culprit so that no such incidents happen in the future in the state of Manipur.

Later, briefing mediapersons, the JAC also informed the ultimatum served to chief minister to arrest the culprit would end tomorrow (Sunday) and added, should the chief minister failed, the JAC was ready for further agitation in support with various civil societies of the state.

Meanwhile, continuing with the protest against the murder of the contractor, some 3000 people comprising of the employees of the Kakching Municipal and public of Irengbam and Mantap under Kakching organised a sit-in-protest at Kakching Naolal Lailampak in Kakching of Thoubal district condemning the murder.

The late contractor, Y.Krishnadas, was kidnapped on the night of June 10 by armed miscreants from the residence of his in-law at Thangmeiband Khondram Sellungba Leikai in Imphal West district with a ransom demand of Rs.2 crores.

However, after negotiation and payment of Rs.25 lakhs to the alleged kidnappers, the lifeless body of the contractor was found June 12 morning near the Lilong water supply in Lilong of Thoubal district.

Following this, a lady by the name of Ashalata Devi, allegedly the lady who received the ransom from the family members, was arrested and has been remanded under police custody.

As per reports, following her confession, T.Nando, a cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), alleged to be the mastermind behind the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Krishnadas, has been arrested from Sajiwa Jail in Imphal East and remanded under police custody.
