UG killed, boy hurt in shoot-out

Imphal, December 16 2008: A 10-YEAR old boy sustained bullet injury in an encounter between armed persons and a combined team of Imphal east police commandos and troops of 32 Assam Rifles today afternoon at Thongangpokpi (near Langdum village) under Irilbung police station in which a suspected PREPAK cadre was killed.

The incident occurred at around 2.30 pm and the boy named Yumlembam Jinet son of Ibobi of Khanarok village has been brought up at RIMS hospital with bullet wound.

His condition was stated to be stable.

Police reports said that the minor boy stained by a bullet injury when the shoot out between the armed undergrounds and combined force of Imphal east police commandos and troops of 32 Assam Rifles occurred while he going nearby.

Police recovered one 9mm pistol loaded with four live rounds of ammunitions from the slain whom police suspect to be a hardcore activist of the proscribed PREPAK outfit.

The dead body has been retrieved from the spot by the Irilbung police and deposited at RIMS morgue for official identification.
