Body calls to withdraw bandh, blockade

Imphal, July 15 2009: The All Manipur Recognized Private Schools' Welfare Association (AMRPSWA) today appealed to withdraw general strike and economic blockades called by student bodies today.

The body also suggested not to make school holiday on August 13, instead observed the "Patriot Day" of the state and remembered the martyrs who scarified for the motherland on this day.

Speaking at press conference at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, president of the body, Hemam Bira observed that due to frequent imposition of bandhs and blockades, the study atmosphere of the schools and students disturbed and the objective of making education a free zone has fall into meaningless.

Considering for the students appearing in the HSLC exam (old course) commencing from July 20, he appealed DESAM and ATSUM to withdraw the 120 hour general strike and indefinite economic blockade respectively and help the students in appearing the exam without any disturbances.

Putting down the question that how far bandhs and blockades have been effectively relaxing the schools and educational institutions, organization secretary Gojendro asked how far students could attend schools during such stir has been a matter worth to discuss now.
