Imphal, December 13 2009: The three long hearing of the Independent Peoples' Tribunal on Torture, Extra-Judicial Execution and Forced Disappearance held at the conference of the Recreation House, Mantripukhri concluded today.

Altogether 42 testimonies submitted by the families of victims of alleged stage manage encounters received during the hearing with noted rights activists and justice as jury members.

Former Judge of Kerala High Court KK Usha, DK Basu, a former Judge of Calcutta High Court and Moloy Sengupta, Acting chief justice of Sikkim High Court, retired Judge of the District and Session Judge C Upendra, former members of the Manipur Human Rights Commission, L Rabindra and Yambem Laba were the jury members.

Apart from submitting their testimonies, members of the victims also gave their statements before the commission.

DK Basu, a former Judge of Calcutta High Court while sharing his opinion at the concluding part of the hearing today observed that the Independent Peoples' Tribunal now came to know that under the shadow of the Armed Forces Special Power Act, 1958, security forces had killed many people without trial.

The tribunal will compiled a report on the security forces killing people without in unrestrained manner under the AFSPA and submit the same with the recommendation of the Act to the Parliamentary affairs ministry before concluding the ongoing session of the Parliament, he assured.

Mention may be made that the hearing of the three day long tribunal aimed at to offer a platform for victims and civil society to narrate experience and to identify the underlying causes of these human rights abuses started from December 10 at the conference hall, Retreat House, Mantripukhri.
