'Stop killing, give them a chance,' cry women over killing of a youth

Imphal, December 13 2008: "HOW CAN we live with peace of mind in such a situation when our children were killed every day in the name of encounter? We don't want money.

We like our children to bring to the main stream if they step to a wrong step" .

"Give them a chance to rectify," cried an elderly woman who was among womenfolk who turn up to lodge a complaint to the chief minister with regard to the killing of a youth from her locality, Heitroipokpi by police commandos on December 11 night at Yerumching in Thoubal district.

Womenfolk from Heiroipokpi village turned up to have audience with the chief minister this afternoon and lodge a complaint him on the account of murder of the youth from their locality.

Before reaching chief minister bungalow, they were stopped by the police at Sanjenthong and forced back upto Palace compound.

The womenfolk were protesting against the killing of a 17-year old youth of the village named Md Rahimuddin son of Jalalluddin.

He was killed with another youth which police suspected to be PULF cadres by a combined force of Assam Rifles and Thoubal police commandos at Yerumching under Thuobal police station on December 11 night.

According to the family members, Rahimuddin recently performed "Nikah" with a village girl was called out by six to seven persons in civil dress on the night before a day ahead of killing him.

Before he was taken away the miscreants told his mother that they would not carry him but will leave after a talk.

The slain youth was currently appearing in the recruitment rally of the IRB personnel which the written text for the same held today (December 13) at Khuman Lampak Sport Complex, according to the family.

"It was only after the police informed the family to collect the dead body of Rahimuddin stating that he died in an encounter with the security force," Bhanu Begum who was among the gathering said.

"We don't want money (she mean ex-gratia paid by government) but our children alive.

Why security forces are trying to eliminate younger generation.

To bring them to mainstream if they happened to step into a wrong step is not the duty of the government, she asked.

According to the womenfolk, they are not coming to the negotiate the dead body with money but only to air the sorrows and shocks that are facing by the women section of the society when youths are killing everyday.
