Imphal, August 29 2009: A fierce encounter was reported between suspected undergrounds and combined security forces this evening around 4.15 at Khamenlok Kuki village under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East.

According to a report, the incident happened right after well armed suspected undergrounds numbering around 12 had entered Khamenlok village from Nongsum village.

Moment later the heavily armed gunmen entered the village, a combined forces of 23 AR and Imphal East district police commandos have entered the village using 15 bullet-proof vehicles.

A fierce gun battle ensued for around 20 minutes.

However, the gunfight came to an end when the suspected militants made a retreat from the place.

No report of casualty has been received from both sides. The combined security forces were said to have conducted a combing operation in the village till late tonight.
