DESAM condemns bomb threat to students

Imphal, January 24 2009: THE DEMOCRATIC Students Association of Manipur (DESAM) strongly condemned the bomb threat to the students by placing an extortion bomb by some unidentified gunmen at the premises of Little Master English Higher Secondary School, Shamurou on January 22 last.

DESAM said that this kind of threats in educational zone is disregarding of the principles of the students body and appealed to all concerns to clarify the reason behind the threats at the earliest.

Education Secretary of DESAM, Arambam Thoithoi in a press conference today said that in July 5, 2008 last, DESAM had organized a mass procession in which over one lakh people took part to make education a "free zone" and not to indulge in any threat which disturbed academic atmosphere and contributes in making students resourceful and worthy man of future.

This act of bomb threat to the students and teachers by some unidentified gunmen has ignored the principle of DESAM, he said.

Thoithoi further said that the excessive act of unidentified has further humiliated the people of the state who had been already facing atrocities from security forces since long time.

He also said that in such situation, the government should not remain silent and take up steps in order to keep the students of the state secure.

Lastly, Thoithoi cautioned teachers not to involve in the construction process of the college saying that numbers of teachers suffered from psychiatric problems as militant outfits put up their percentage demands upon the teachers and principal of colleges despite demanding from the respective contractors from the funds released by the government for construction of colleges.
