AR kill two UNLF cadres, nab 1 PREPAK

Imphal, April 22 2009: TROOPS OF 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) killed two cadres of UNLF in an encounter this afternoon.

According to a press release from HQ IGAR (South), based on specific information regarding presence of UNLF cadres in Indo-Myanmar Border Pillar 84, the troops launched operation in the area around 12:45 pm today.

The parties saw some movement across the International border.

On being challenged two individuals tried to flee while firing on to the troops.

Assam Rifles retaliated that resulted in the killing of two UNLF cadres.

One 9mm pistol, four live rounds, one .32 revolver, three live rounds and eight Chinese hand grenades were recovered from the slain UGs cadres, the press release stated.

In the meanwhile, based on specific information regarding movement of UG cadres with arms and ammunition from across the international border, troops of 31 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) located at Permanent Vehicle Check Post at Khudengthabi yesterday intercepted an auto rickshaw moving from Moreh to Imphal for checking.

The occupant tried to evade checking citing medical problems.

On being asked to prove his identity he jumped out of the auto rickshaw and started running towards the dense jungle with a bag.

He was apprehended by the troops.

On detailed questioning, it was revealed that the individual is an active cadre of PREPAK and was transporting arms and explosive from Moreh to Imphal to be delivered to the group in Imphal Valley.

The apprehendee has been identified as Lulun Haokip, 21 years, son of Holpao Haokip of Moreh Ward No 2. One 9mm pistol, (Made in Bangladesh), one magazine of 9mm pistol, two anti personnel mines, two fuse Anti personnel mines, two Chinese hand grenades and two fuse Chinese hand grenades were recovered from him.

He along with the recovered items have been handed over to Police Station, the press release stated.
