Man, woman shot at, injured

Imphal, January 08 2009: IN AN incident suspected to be a revenge attack following a fight that happened sometime back, two members of a family�a man and his younger brother's wife sustained serious injuries when a group of around six men shot at them this afternoon at Phoubakchao located about 12 kms south of Mayang Imphal Police Station in Imphal west district.

The incident occurred around 1.30 pm and the injured persons namely Md Etombi (55), son of late Amu of Phoubakchao Yangbi and his younger brother Abdul's wife Leinaton Bibi have been hospitalized at RIMS, Imphal.

Etombi sustained bullet injury at his right leg, two hands and near private part while Leinaton received bullets at her waist and leg on the left side.

They were attacked by six people led by Md Asaram Ali (55) son of late Turab Ali, his brother doctor Bashir Ali (45) and Waheb Ali (30) with a double bore gun and a hand gun and fired instantly when the two injured persons were working at a fish farm.

According to the injured persons, the attack was apparently related with a quarrel between the two families some times back over a land dispute.

Due to fear of attacking again on the way to hospital, the two injured persons were treated at their home but with the arrival of police personnel from the Mayang Imphal, they were evacuated at a hospital in Wangoi but later referred to RIMS hospital as their conditions become serious.

The police team arrived with a combined team of Imphal west police commandos attaching at the Mayang Imphal police station and troops of 12 Marath Li.

Mayang Imphal police registered a case regarding the incident.

But there has no report of rounding of the alleged culprits and recovery of weapons used by them.
