Mother goes to Right commission for her son's life security

Imphal, December 06 2008: MANIPUR HUMAN Rights Commission (MHRC) on Friday has asked the state police chief to submit a report on December 18 to the commission regarding the action taken up by the police for the security of the life of a son following a petition filed his mother after her son escape from an attack by three gunmen in the last part of last month November.

The mother of Md Zanab Ali alias Zakir Hussain named Sanarei Begum, a resident of Irong Chirai under Mayang Imphal police station in Imphal west went to the state human rights commission stating that despite her plea to the state police DGP for necessary steps for the security of his son who is serving as primary teacher in a school under department of education (s) and posting at Lower Primary Madrassa since he joined the service in 2002 .

Her son, Zanab's life have been kept in insecure condition after an unfortunate incident that took place on November 24 last at around 5.40 pm in which three persons in civil dress armed with small guns attack on him by firing five rounds while coming home after a work with his two local friends.

The mother feel insecure to her son's life as one of his accomplice on that fateful day named Md Helim, a junior platoon commander in the state Home Guard has gunned down by the a combined force of Assam Rifles and Thoubal police commandos on the next day of the incident on November 25 along with another person in an encounter and frequent visit by the police commandos and security personnel to her home in the name of searching the chairman of the PULF (Azad faction).

In her petition to the right commission and to the DGP as well also mentioned that she was the mother of the chairman of the PULF (Azad faction), Md Azad but claimed that even though he (Azad) was born by her he is no more her son after he joined the outfit who did not return back again to home.

She also in her petition went on to recall that on the way to her son's home, the three armed persons attacked on them with guns.

His son along with another friend escaped but the third one named Md Helim has been taken away by the armed persons with the vehicle they come with.

Later on the next, Helim was killed along with another person by a combined force of Assam Rifles and police commandos in encounter at Yairipok Thambalnu road.

It came to know by the petitioner from the news broadcasted in the Imphal station of the All India Radio, the petition said.

In the aftermath of the incidents alleging that her son is a PULF cadre, police are behind him which feel insecure to his life.

To add to his insecurity, the mother said that police commandos and security personnel of the Maratha Li posting at Mayang Imphal frequently visited her home in the name searching the chairman of the PULF outfit (Azad Faction).

Failure on the part of the police to take apparent action with regard to the petition, the mother approached to the Manipur Human Rights Commission for security of her son.

MHRC conducted a hearing to the petition filed Sanarei yesterday and directed the state DGP to furnish the action taken report to the plea of the mother on December 18 .

A copy each of the proceeding were also forwarded to the SPs of Imphal west and Thoubal district police.
