Bailout UG among 2 killed

Imphal, May 05 2009: With no let up to the killing spree of the security forces in the state in alleged encounter, two more persons including one bailout underground cadre killed at different places since last night.

The bailout underground belonging to the KYKL outfit was killed in an alleged encounter with the combined force of 28 Assam Rifles and Thoubal police commandos at Seijang village under Lamlai police station of Imphal East district today morning at around 4:15 am.

Police claimed recovery of a .32 revolver loaded with four live rounds of ammunition from the slain man whose identity was established later in the day.

He was identified as Chongtham Umakanta alias Manaoton (24), s/o Gunamani of Iroishemba Mamang Leikai in Imphal West district.

Family, after establishing the identity of the slain man today at RIMS morgue has taken for performing the last rites.

According to the family, Umakanta was a former KYKL cadre and retired around four year back.

He was a married man with a six month old son.

Some seven month back, he was arrested by the security force from Naoremthong area.

After coming out from the jail, he used to attend at the court on regular basis.

A woman named Mayengbam Gyeneshwori of Iroishemba Mayai Leikai who said to witness security picking up Umakanta said that he was rounded up by the three armed men in civil dress said that after they picked him up at around 9.45 pm, they met with her son Premjit alias Nanao.

When they said to have meal, she arranged it and served them.

After the meal one of them went out from the house toward the gate and without much time gap, police commandos in uniform arrived and entered to the house and called out Umakanta and the other two persons inside the house.

When, they tried to carry away Prem also his grant mother blocked the way.

Prem also remained at her feet saying that he could not go with them.

After then, they left behind him and carry away Umakanta as there erupted a noise situation.

Last night also, one suspected UG was also killed by the combined force of Thoubal district police commandos and 28 AR last night at around 12.15 am at Thoubal Khunou Cheengya of Thoubal district and recovered a .32 revolver with two live rounds.

The identity of the slain man could not be established and deposited at RIMS morgue for official procedure.
