Court orders to probe in youth killing at his own courtyard

Imphal, December 02 2009: In the series of court intervention into the alleged 'fake encounter" killing in Manipur, yet again Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench today ordered inquiry into the killing of a youth at his owned courtyard by a team of police commandos on March 2008 to the District and Session Judge, Manipur East.

Longjam Utamkumar (38) so of L Shanti alias of Keishampat Longjam Leirak was killed by the police commandos at about 3.30 pm of March 29, 2008 at the courtyard of his own house.

He was shot to dead by motorcycle borne police commandos who chased after him.

The hearing of the court to a petition filed by the father of the deceased against the state chief secretary, DGP, SP Imphal West district and OC of Imphal police station was conducted in the court of justice K Meruno.

In his petitioned, the father of the deceased, Boyai prayed the court to find the truth behind the killing stating that there erupted a controversy over the killing when police claimed his son killed in encounter and deliver justice in the case.

After hearing the argument of counsels of both the petition and respondent, the court ordered an inquiry which would be conducted by the District and Session Judge, Manipur East and submit a report to the high court.

Both sides were also ordered to submit their affidavits to the district and session judge on December 21 .
