Journal on fake encounter released

Imphal, October 29 2009: Manipur State Human Rights Commission member, Ng Nogyai today drew the attention of the magistrate in using power confer under section 176 CRPC which was amended in 2005 in the state where frequent report of alleged fake encounter occurred.

Taking part in the releasing function of "fake encounters, how they are on", a special bimonthly journal, the member observed that in conducting enquiry into the fake encounter, magistrates need to take outmost interest.

An awareness programme related with giving awareness on role to be taken by the judicial officers, advocates and civil society to check fake encounter will also be conducted at the earliest, he added.

He also said that commission will take up all necessary steps to deliver justice into the July 23 incident.

The commission is ready to face all hindrance coming before the enquiry into the incident.

Director of Human Right Network, Meihoubam Rakesh talking about the contents of the journal said that it contained reports of a fake encounter finding conducted by metropolitan magistrate SP Tamang.

The report related with an incident occurred in Ahmedabad on June 2008 which four people were killed by police in alleged fake encounter.
