Imphal, January 22 2010: A man, allegedly picked up by security force personnel in civil dress from his home, was killed by the troops of Assam Rifles in encounter in the wee hour today at Kwakta Saiton village in Bishnupur district.

Police report said that the man suspected to be an activist of People United Liberation Front (PULF) was killed in an encounter with troops of 33 Assam Rifles at Kwakta Saiton village under Moirang police station of Bishnupur district around half past midnight.

A 9 mm pistol loaded with some live rounds was recovered from the possession of the slain suspect, later identified as Md Farukuddin (45) of Kwakta Saiton Awang Leikai.

He was originally from Moijing village of Thoubal district but settled in the village sometime back.

While identifying the dead body, family reportedly alleged that he was picked up by some unknown armed persons suspected to be security men last night before shooting him dead in a place not so far away from their house.

They also denied recovery of weapon from his possession stating that at the time he was picked up no arms recovered from him.
