Imphal, October 19 2009: Some armed persons suspected to be cadres of NSCN-IM today laid ambush on a group of cadres of PLA, killing two of them at about 5 pm today at Nungshit Haibee village near Chandrakhong Mathak under Yairipok Police Station.

Though the identification of the two slain PLA cadres is yet to be established officially, a source said that the two deceased cadres could be Laishram John @ Chingkheingamba (22), son of Late Thoiba, of Mayang Imphal Shamushang Shantipur and Yengkhom Bungcha (21), son of Y Manithoiba of Awang Leikinthabi.

A villager told this newspaper that some persons who claimed themselves to be cadres of PLA handed over the two dead bodies to the chief of the village.

The villager further said that while the cadres of PLA were moving beyond the village, some cadres of NSCN-IM attacked them, and a fierce gun battle ensued.

Later, the NSCN-IM cadres retreated from there.
