Imphal, May 14 2009: Suspected Kuki based militants shot dead a middle age man at Changveng village under Kangpokpi police station even as Imphal west police commandos gunned down a suspected militant at a spot on the road connecting Langol and Lainingkhul in other militancy related incident today.

The killing of the 50 year old man identified as Lenkholal Haokip of Kangpokpi Ward no.I took place at Changveng village, one kilometer away no the north east of the Kangpokpi police station this evening at around 6 pm.

Reports said that the slain man was a businessman and also doing social works.

He was abducted on the way to his ailing son by some armed men suspected to belong to a Kuki militant group and shot dead later.

After conducting postmortem to the dead body, police handed over to the family late this evening.

Meanwhile, Imphal west police commandos also gunned down a suspected militant late evening at around 6 at a spot located on the newly constructed road connecting Langol with Lainingkhul under Lamphel police station.

Police report said that he was killed in an encounter with the police commandos who entered the place on getting information of loitering some underground elements there.

Police recoevered a 9 mm pistol loaded with three live round in it and a China make hand grenade from the possession of the dead body seemed to be a Meetei-Pangal and a tattoo on the left hand written as Rajiuddin.
