Judicial probe demanded on Fakkiruddin killing

Imphal, January 23 2010: A JAC formed in connection with the killing of Md Fakkiruddin of Kwakta Saiton by the Assam Rifles in alleged fake encounter on January 21 night lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister, O Ibobi with regard to the killing.

In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister today, the JAC also demanded judicial inquiry into the killing of Fakkiruddin and punish those security men involved in the killing.

According to the JAC, Fakkiruddin was abducted by around seven armed unknown persons from his house before he was shot to dead by the troops of Assam Rifles on the night of January 21 from his current residence at Kwakta Saoiton Khunou.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal this afternoon, convener of the JAC, Md Amin announced that they will launch agitation with regard to the killing and it will continue till the demands are fulfill by the government.

Besides the demand for judicial inquiry, the JAC is demanding payment of adequate compensation to the family of the deceased, provision of a job to one of the family members.

Wife of the deceased Fakkiruddin, 28 year old Memcha who also present in the press conference recalled the incident of the fateful night in which her husband was killed.

She said, her husband was abducted by around seven to eight armed persons from their present residence at Saiton Khunou while the couple with their mother was having dinner together.

They called out him on the pretext of questioning something but instantly, they started beating him up by blind folding.

She was blind folded by them.

Later, he was taken away by the armed miscreants.

They also took away gold ornaments of two tula and Rs 30,000 in cash, she alleged.

Later, troops of Assam Rifles came to the house at about 11 pm and beaten up not only the family members but also some villagers.

They also took away Rs 20,500 from one villager named Basiruddin after beaten up, she added.

On the next day she was informed of killing her husband in encounter with security forces and the dead body being handed over to Moirang police station, she told reporters.
