Imphal, October 21 2009: A combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 21 Assam Rifles gunned down a youth who police claimed to be an insurgent last night about 9 pm during a counter insurgency operation at Waikhong Sarit Konjeng Leikai, about 11 kms south of Waikhong PS in Thoubal district, reports said.

An AK-56 rifle with a magazine loaded with 18 live rounds and a China made hand grenade were recovered from the slain youth.

The deceased has been identified as Shougrakpam Johnson (23), son of Sh Noren of Hiyanglam Lai Pangalba.

Family source said, he had gone to bring his wife home from her parental house after Ningol Chakkouba.

He was taken away by a team of police commandos while he was waiting for a passenger vehicle plying between Kakching and Tekcham.
