Imphal, November 19 2009: Security forces today gunned down two suspected underground activists in two separate counter insurgency operations in state.

Imphal east police commandos in a joint operation with the troops of 23 Assam Rifles shot dead one of the militants at Sanapat near foothill of Tiger Camp in Imphal east district, 15 kilometer north of Lamlai police station this morning at about 6.30 o'clock, a police report said.

An AK-56 rifles with magazine loaded with 12 live rounds, a latohd sell and a China make hand grenade recovered from the possession of the slain underground who police suspected to be belongs to PREPAK.

The underground was killed during a brief encounter between a group of well armed undergrounds and the combined force that entered to the area based on tip-off of presence of underground elements there.

Later this afternoon, the slain man has been identified as Ngairangbam Amit alias John (19) son of late Birbal of Heirangoithong presently resided at Sagolband Meino Leirak.

He was an activist of the PREPAK, source said.

The killing of the militant took place within 24-hour of apprehension of an UNLF cadre nabbed yesterday morning at about 8 am identified as Moirangthem Khaba Meetei alias Abung alias Memton (20) son of late Tomba, a resident of Taret Khul Mamang Leikai only a few meter away from the place where the killing of the suspected militant took place.

Imphal east police commandos during a search operation at Khurai Chairen Thongkhong under Lamlai police station nabbed the UNLF cadre.

A .32 pistol with four live rounds seized from his possession, a police source said.

Another militant was also gunned down by the troops of 29 Assam Rifles in Wangphulok village, 25 km north east from Tengnoupal police station of Chandel district this morning, at about 6.15 am.

Assam Rifles handed over the dead body to the police with a 9 mm pistol, a magazine of the pistol loaded with four live rounds.

Police quoting Assam Rifles statement said that the militant was killed in gun clash that erupted between the troops who were on duty there for area domination and some armed cadres of a militant outfit this morning.
