AR kills one UG, two nabbed

Imphal, September 18, 2009: Troops of 28 Assam Rifles have gunned down a youth suspected to be underground activist last night at about 9.15 pm at Langdum Lamkhai two kilometer east of Irilbung police station.

From the slain suspect, AR personnel recovered a 9 mm pistol with a magazine loaded three live rounds of ammunitions, two empty cases of 9 mm and nine empty cases of AK-47 rifle.

Recovered items have been handed over to the Irilbung police station, Assam Rifles statement informed.

According to Assam Rifles, the youth was killed during a brief gunfight and two to three suspected undergrounds escaped taking advantage of the darkness of the time.

The exact identity of the slain youth is yet to officially established but a highly reliable source said the slain man could be one Okram Kiran hailing from Sekmaijin Phoubakchao Makha.

The dead body has been kept at RIMS morgue by the Irilbung police.

Troops of 28 AR also apprehended a youth said to be PRO of the Komrem Revolutionary People's Army (KRPA) identified as Satro Thangjem (50) son of S Lengkhular of Punchangyang today during a search operation at Kakwa Bazar under Singjamei police station today and recovered five live rounds of AK 47 ammunition along with a mobile handset.

He has been handed over to Singjamei police station.

A PULF cadre was also apprehended by the troops of 12 Maratha Li during a search operation at Khelakhong and Uchiwa area last night.

He has been identified as Md Shabir Chesam (19) son of Md Nijamuddin of Khelakhong and recovered a Bajaj Pulser (MN0-4B-5602).
