Abducted man found killed,villagers outraged

Imphal, July 13 2009: A person, who had been abducted by some persons claiming to be members of an underground group was found death with many bruise marks on his body today at a place at the bank of Nambul River under Mayang Imphal police station.

The person is identified as Longjam Tomba (50), son of (L) L Tombi of Top Siphai Mayai Leikai.

Family source said that the man was abducted by some persons who identified themselves as members of the particular group at around 10.50 pm on July 11 from his hotel located at Luxmi Bazar.

He was said to be abducted with a case relating to the divorce of his son and his daughter-in-law.

The source further said that the son of Tomba, L Ranbir (then 21) was married to Yumnam Pravati (then 23) of Top Upokpi Thongkhong few years back.

There has been a case regarding the divorce term between the two families.

They said that the man's family had been paying Rs 700 to the divorced woman monthly after the divorcement.

But, they stopped paying the money after the woman had married a second husband.

Since then, there has been misunderstanding between the two families.

Ranbir was also said to have been threatened by the same group on July 2 demanding him to come at Yangoi Khullen or his house will be bombed.

Ranbir went there and found no one there.

Amidst all these happenings, Ranbir's father was abducted by around five persons on the night of July 11.As a reaction, the villagers had also nabbed Yumnam Tomba, the father of Y Pravati the same night around 11 .

The villagers and family members of L Tomba were called up the next day and warned that L Tomba will be killed if they did not release Y Tomba.

At the meantime, the dead body was come across by women vendors of the area yesterday evening.

Following the breaking of the news, irate public and villagers have razed the house of Yumnam Tomba, the father of Y Parvati, and ransacked many properties.

They have also threatened to kill Y Tomba in revenge.

But the intervention of police personnel of Mayang Imphal has neutralised the situation.
