Corpses of UG suspects to be disposed off

Imphal, February 08 2010: The bodies of two suspected underground activists who were reportedly shot dead by security forces during two separate incident of encounters would be disposed off if nobody turned up to identity and claim the bodies.

According to an order issued by District Magistrate of Imphal East district M Lakshmikumar, the body of the UG suspect who was shot dead by personnel of 28 Assam Rifles during an encounter at Kiyamgei Takhokpalli under Imphal East district on the night of February 3 has started decomposing and would be disposed off accordingly if nobody came to claim the same by 2 pm tomorrow.

The corpse of the UG suspect against whom Irilbung Police Station had registered an FIR is still lying at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.

The post-mortem examination of the body and other formalities would be carried out before being disposed, the order of the District Magistrate added.

Similarly, the body of another UG suspect who was shot dead by a combined force of Thoubal District Police Commandos and personnel of 21 Assam Rifles during an encounter which took place near Thongjao Maning Canal under Waikhong Police Station in the intervening night of February 5 and 6 would also be disposed off in the event of no one coming to claim the body by February 10 .

Issuing a statement in this connection, CO of Waikhong Police Station informed that the deceased, whose body is still lying at the mortuary of RIMS, appears around 25 years of age with oval face shape, standing 5 feet 6 inches tall, stout build, wheatish complexion and black hair cropped short.

The deceased was found clad in black track pant, olive green jacket, green jersey, black T-shirt, red T-shirt, camouflage canvass shoes and white socks.

He was wearing one Timex wrist watch and a ring on his left hand, a silver chain around his neck and a bracelet on the right arm, the statement of the OC further informed.
