Heirok rally protest against assault on the life of Ashok Kumar

Imphal, December 05 2009: A protest rally was carried out in Heirok in Thoubal district today against gun firing incident at the house of the former president of the Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU), Khundongbam Ashok Kumar in the wee hour of November 19 last which residents considered as life attempt bid to the .

Miscreants fired some rounds of guns at the house of Ashok Kumar causing damages to the window pane of the bedroom where the former president of MUSU and now working as lecturer of a higher secondary in his village.

He escaped unhurt.

The protest rally kicked-off from Heiraok Higher Secondary School proceeded upto Hierok Litan Makhong and concluded with a public meeting at a public ground at Heirok part-II Mayai Leikai.

Students of the Heirok Higher Secondary School and Heirok Primary School took part in the rally that carried slogans "Give a chance for peaceful life, what is the fault of Ashok Kumar, we don't want a society without teacher, we condemned the life attempt act of miscreants" etc.

Principal of the Heirok Higher Secondary Moirangthem Rajmohon presided over the meeting in which senior lecturer of the seconday school Thokchom Shamu was in the dais.

Speaking at the meeting Ashokumar expressed his willingness to know who were responsible for the attack if any of the underground groups involved and the reason behind it.

He was involved in many activities for the welfare of the students during his studenthood.

Mistakes may have been committed unknowing at that time.

If any mistake hurt to any groups, but it can be settled down through talks as he has no relation with any organizations since he joint government service as lecturer.

After a threadbare discussion on the alleged life attempt bid formed a JAC in connection with the incident and press state authority to provide security for Ashok Kumar, booking of culprit(s) and to submit a memorandum to the chief minister to translate into work to their demands.
