Imphal, January 28 2009: THE IMPHAL East district Police Commandos killed a suspected UG cadre in what they claimed to be an encounter today at an area between Minuthong Thongkhong and Dingku Road near Khuman Lampak here.

A Chinese made hand grenade was recovered from near the body.

He was identified as one Th Haridas, son of Th Doren of Khumujamba Meetei Leikai, under Churachandpur PS.

But which UG group did he belong to is not known.

The body has been kept at the RIMS mortuary under Lamshang police station.

The injured man was identified as Leishangthem jiten (28) son of L Tombi hailing from Koutruk and currently residing at Sairem Khun at his wife home.

He has been admitted at Shija Hospital under serious condition.

According to the villagers, yesterday night some unidentified persons abducted a youth named Kakyenpaibam Chinglen (21) son of Bobo of Sairem Khul who was attending a thabal chongba at Atong Khuman School ground.

Today, the Jiten went with elder brother of Chinglen in search of Chinglen.

When they met with the persons who abducted Chinglen at Yembung Lok, they inquired about their coming to the place and fired at them.

At that Jiten was hurt by a bullet at his right chest.

On getting the news, villagers of Sairem village rushed to the spot but before they arrived the assailants had already left the place and Jiten was found lying hurt, the villagers said.

Chinglen, who was abducted by the unknown, is yet to release.

Some two years back, in an instant Chinglen was abducted by an underground group and the undergrounds had also killed her mother on the charge of being an informer of the police.
